Braun Lift Parts

All Braun wheelchair lifts are supported nationwide by a network of certified dealers who carry Braun lift parts. Braun lift parts include Braun pendants and Braun actuators. These are two of the Braun lift parts that see the most heavy duty use–and often abuse! Braun pendants are the hand-held controls that house the lift operation switches and can be dropped on the ground or pinched in a closing door. Braun actuators are the Braun parts that set the lift into motion and are used every time a button is pushed. While they are built for long-term use, they must be well maintained in order to ensure trouble free service.

Braun service can be obtained by calling Automotive Innovations at 508-697-8324. Please be sure to have your Braun wheelchair lift serial number in-hand so we can check to see if we have the appropriate Braun pendant and Braun actuator for you.

Avoiding Problems With Your Wheelchair Lift

Almost all wheelchair lift problems can be attributed to three main things. I would like to talk a little about each one and what you can do to be proactive in preventing problems that could stop your lift from operating.

Reason Number 1: Operator Error. It may not be P.C. to bring it up, but many issues are caused by the user hurrying, not taking the proper precautions, or simply attempting to operate the lift in a situation it is not designed for. Let me expand on this a little.

We all know the obvious things an operator can do wrong. Lowering a lift on to extremely uneven ground or folding a platform into a van door that is not fully opened, if you have manual doors. The things that you need to think about are the issues that aren’t so obvious, but can still cause damage. Things like making sure you fully fold the platform when you are putting it in the stowed position. A lot of times people tend to release the fold switch too soon because the lift makes excessive noise when it cinches tight. Far from being a problem, that noise is a good thing  What you’re hearing is the electric actuator “ratcheting,” which tells you that the lift is fully stowed and will not rattle as much while you’re driving. A tightly stowed platform will prevent certain lift components from wearing out prematurely, so be sure to keep the fold button pressed!

Another not-so-obvious issue is to make sure the outer roll stop deploys fully before you exit the platform. Think about it. If you are in a hurry and the roll stop is not completely down on the ground, your weight when rolling off of it is going to put excessive stress on those parts and you could cause problems that are easily avoidable. Even if the tip of the roll stop is up just a little bit, take the time to lower it completely before you exit the platform.

Reason Number 2: Lack of Maintenance. Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance – I can’t say those words enough! Your dealer should set up a maintenance program for you and your lift should be in their shop for a regular check up at least twice a year. Every lift built after 2005 has a cycle counter on it that will tell us the total number of times you’ve used your lift, and all lifts should be maintained every 750 cycles. This is a short point.  All you need to know is that if you don’t maintain your lift, something will eventually stop working!

Reason Number 3: Broken Parts. No matter what the product, we’ve all encountered that unexpected broken part that seems to go bad for no apparent reason. This actually represents a small percentage of wheelchair lift failures, and it can usually be avoided if the lift is maintained on a regular basis (see reason #2 above!). A typical situation might be a wiring harness that gets cut by a lift component. This type of issue rarely happens out-of-the-blue, and with routine maintenance your dealer should be able to see the problem starting to occur and fix it before it gets worse.

That about sums it up  The bottom line is that a properly operated and maintained wheelchair lift should give you years of reliable service.  Read your manual and work closely with Automotive Innovations to make sure your lift is ready to go whenever you are.  If you have any question or are having an issue with your BraunAbility lift, please call us at 508-697-6006.

The BraunAbility UVL, or Under Vehicle Lift®, provides an innovative solution to your personal mobility needs. The mobility lift is mounted underneath the full-size wheelchair accessible vehicle, and is virtually out of site and out of the way until use of the lift.

This design creates more interior space with easier access into the vehicle for friends and family. The lift is activated by the standard hand-held or operational remote control, and with one click of the button, the lift smoothly deploys from the underneath the vehicle.

With its simple and smooth design, deploying and retracting your lift will come with ease and enjoyment as you enter and exit your wheelchair accessible vehicle.

The UVL van lift’s safety features include a slip-resistant platform, automatic roll stop and an integrated manual backup system which allows you to safely get on and off the ramp. Your mobility freedom is just a push of the button away with the BraunAbility UVL van lift!

Features

•Threshold Sensor Mat:

The CompanionVan RE is a great choice for individuals that travel with an attendant because of its manual door and manual bi-fold ramp feature.

•Lifting Arms:

The CompanionVan RE’s floor is lowered from the rear of the wheelchair van to just behind the front seats. Tie-down tracks and one belt system are included.

•Hydraulic Power Pack:

This feature allows for the two second row seats to fold down for ambulatory passengers, which leaves plenty of room for one wheelchair passenger. Fold up the seats and now you have a wheelchair van that can accommodate two wheelchair passengers

•Storage Compartment:

The aluminum under-vehicle storage compartment is weather-resistant to protect these mobility lifts from the elements.

•Optional Door Operations:

The optional automatic door operators give you complete control of your mobility. The doors can be opened and closed with all standard and optional van lift controls.

What is the Catastrophic Illness in Children Relief Fund?

The Catastrophic Illness in Children Relief Fund (CICRF) helps families bear the excessive financial burdens associated with the care of children with special health care needs and disabilities. CICRF is a payor of last resort. It provides financial assistance for Massachusetts families with children experiencing a medical condition requiring services that are not covered by a private insurer, federal or state assistance, or any other financial source.

The Fund is designed to act as a safety net for families who have excessive expenses related to a child's medical needs. The family may be responsible for these expenses due to:

A lack of insurance or dependent coverage

Expenses that are greater than the maximum benefit allowed by their insurance company

Pre-existing conditions, co-payments, and other expenses that are not covered by insurance

CICRF is a reimbursement program. The expense must have already been incurred in order to be eligible for the Fund and to receive reimbursement. In cases of extreme medical emergency, the CICRF Commission may grant approval before the expense is incurred.

NOTE: Because the amount in the Fund varies from year to year, and the number of requests varies as well, CICRF cannot guarantee funding in all cases. Families are advised not to assume or make financial decisions based on the expectation that the Fund will pay, even if they have received payment for a similar expense in the past.

Who is eligible to apply?

In order to be eligible for the Catastrophic Illness in Children Relief Fund:

The family's out-of-pocket expenses related to their child’s medical condition must be more than 10% of the family's gross annual income up to $100,000 and 15% of any portion of the annual family income that is above $100,000, in a given twelve month period.

The applicant must be a resident of Massachusetts.

The applicant must be 21 years old or younger at the time the expenses were incurred.

The applicant must be under the care of a licensed health care provider with staff privileges at a hospital licensed or accredited to provide pediatric or neonatal care.

The Fund will consider expenses incurred within the last 24 months prior to the application date.

What expenses are covered?

The following expenses may be eligible for payment/reimbursement if found to be reasonable. The categories include, but are not limited to:

Payments to health care providers

Specialized pediatric ambulatory care

Addiction/mental health services

Acute or specialized hospital care, both in and outpatient

Medical equipment or disposable medical supplies

Medications

Medically related home and vehicle modifications

Medical transportation

Home health care

Related travel expenses for out of state treatment

Following special review, experimental treatment or medications

The Commission will consider other reasonable expenses related to the treatment, palliation, habilitation, or rehabilitation of a child's illness or medical treatment.

CICRF may pay for expenses related to experimental treatment in certain circumstances. In general, however, the Fund will not pay for treatment in Phase I clinical trials.

Only expenses for which the family is directly responsible as a result of the child's medical condition may be considered for payment or reimbursement. For example, expenses covered by health or other insurance cannot be included in the calculation of total eligible expenses.

In all cases, CICRF should be considered the payor of last resort after the family makes all reasonable attempts to pursue other funding.

How does a family apply for the Fund?

The application can be downloaded from this site. You may print the blank application form and fill it out by hand and mail it. To maintain confidentiality, the application form cannot be transmitted electronically.

If you need help in translating or completing the application, please call the 800 number located at the bottom of each web page and CICRF staff will assist you.
